UPCOMING EVENTS

The July meeting will be an interest meeting in which the oversight committee wil meet to get acquainted, discuss goals, and undergo some preliminary leadership training.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

This is a key transition that eliminates the exclusive social barriers of "us" vs. "them". The more malleable this barrier becomes, the better we can collectively grow.

1

LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Committee members who facilitate the larger scope of SOLID will receive leadership training that they will be fully prepared to execute at any given moment.

2

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

AND ADVOCACY

The leadership skills developed by SOLID group members will be put to the test when it comes time to provoke real change in the communities at large.

3

One of the primary goals of SOLID is going to organize interscholastic conferences to promote increased awareness about issues of diversity and intersectionality in our schools.

YOUTH-LED DISCUSSIONS  AND WORKSHOPS

In this meeting we hope to continue fostering discussions about diversity and intersectionality, as well as welcome some new members to SOLID! Program consultant Yahya Abdul-Basser will present on outreach iniatives, and we will discuss goals for the 2016-2017 school year.

All of the components of identity--race, gender, sexuality, socio-economic class, and ability--work in tandem to create who we are and how we behave. Whether we realize this or not, is the challenge we must confront.

FROM DIVERSITY TO COMMUNITY

UNDERSTANDING INTERSECTIONALITY

Committee members will briefly present oral progress reports on in-school SOLID clubs, and community outreach logistics. We hope to begin brainstorming for our first interschool conference.

At SOLID, we are looking for members who are committed to the cause, who are goal oriented, and have a desire to express both passion and compassion with the group.
